My Own Corner of the Web

Hey there! I’m Rubén Verdute Ávila, a Full Stack and DevOps developer, and this site is my way of putting some order into my digital life. After many years building things for other people, I felt like creating something that was truly mine.

Who I really am (not the LinkedIn version)

I’ve been coding for over a decade, most of that time at Kimet Sport, where I’ve worked on all kinds of systems: Java APIs, frontends in Angular and Svelte, complex migrations, databases with cross-continent replicas, and a thousand other stories that never make the headlines.

I like code, sure, but what really hooks me is understanding how all the pieces fit together: architecture, performance, infrastructure, deployments, SEO, internationalization… And when something breaks in production, that’s when I’m at my sharpest.

I’m a perfectionist —sometimes too much for my own good— but I’m also persistent. I constantly start personal projects; some I finish, others stay halfway… but all of them teach me something.

What you’ll find here

This site is a bit like my head: a mix of tech, structure, curiosity, and a few obsessions here and there.

  • Personal projects, from useful tools to experiments that probably only I care about.
  • Technical articles about things I’ve actually had to solve: complex internationalization, Docker, PostgreSQL in weird environments, API refactors, on-page SEO, etc.
  • More personal notes, because it’s not all about code. I’m also trying to sort out my life, get better at what I do, and find my own path without getting stuck in the work-home-weekend loop.

And yes, I’ll also talk about video games, retro consoles, and TV shows, because that’s who I am.

How I work (and why)

I like to look at systems from end to end. I don’t really believe in “I only do frontend” or “I only do backend”. In the end, if you understand all the layers, you work better and break fewer things.

The technologies I use the most and enjoy right now:

  • Frontend: Svelte, Angular, Next.js
  • Backend: Java, Vaadin, Node, well-designed REST APIs
  • Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, GitHub Actions
  • Databases: PostgreSQL 12+, with fun setups like replicas between Europe and the U.S.

I like to automate, clean up code, not break what already works, and improve what doesn’t. I try to keep the final solution simple, even if the path to get there isn’t.

Why I built this site

Because I needed a space of my own, with no intermediaries, where I can:

  • store what I learn,
  • document what I build,
  • push myself to finish projects,
  • and show who I am without the filter of a social network or a CV.

Also, from Rubén to Rubén: I’ve been wanting to step out of the routine for a while, make progress in my personal life, and broaden my horizons. Having my own site is one way of making a move.

Let’s talk

If you’ve made it this far, thanks.
And if you’d like to comment on something, collaborate on a project, or just chat about tech, development, or retro gaming, I’m here.

You’ve got the Contact section, and you can also find me on:
